The journey of Infiniti in United States
The Infiniti cars were first rolled out in America in the November of 1989. But surprisingly, in the beginning the brand wasn’t received well at all. Critics say that much of it was due to the unusual approach in advertising the car models which used a ‘Zen’ influenced concept. So where most brands showed their car models, Infiniti focused more on tranquil environments rather than showing the photos of its vehicles. Then the brand realized it and replaced the old commercials with new ones which showed all their luxury liners. The company also went on to win several awards for its innovatively designed cars and their smart concepts.
The hard truth
With every beautiful thing comes an ugly truth and in this case, it is the expensive price of the Infiniti vehicles. Now with a car which gives you the optimum luxury, comfort, fashion statement, excellent strength, great durability and superb drive, you can make out that the price tag is not for nothing.
Trend setting hot wheels
Infiniti got a major break with the launch of Q45 model which became the top of the line vehicle during that time. The car had many award winning features. Then the brand began to roll out one smart car model to the other. But soon when everybody was sure the brand would emerge as the world leader beating the bests in the industry, the M30 was launched in the 90s and failed to keep up with the pace of the competition. But the brand geared up and came back with the super-hit luxury cars like QX4, G35 and FX35/45 and redefined its power as one of the best automotive giants in the world.
Originally, a motorcycle racer, Takahashi got fame in 1961 as the first ever Japanese rider to actually win the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix on a 250cc Honda. A serious injury in 1962 reduced his motorcycle racing career and made him start racing in cars. He started utilizing many drifting manoeuvres out of requirement to take on tight corners while maintaining the speed. Not only did it assist Takahashi win drifting, races on the speedway also won him various followers among the fans. Fans were exhilarated by this brand new style of racing and Takahashi’s crowd pleasing antics on the track.
The ambition of the young street racer, Tsuchiya devoted himself to the drift methods of Takahashi. As an upcoming racer, Tsuchiya made something completely unique, elevating drifting from a mere racing method to a complete sport in its own right. Tsuchiya’s early practice runs on Japan’s twisty mountain roads have become the stuff of legend, the Japanese term for mountain pass, Touge, has entered street racing vocabulary in languages and countries all across the world.
With the assist of a few car and tuning magazines, Tsuchiya made a short video featuring the drifting skills and methods titled ‘Pluspy’. The video debuted in 1987 and was an instant hit inspiring countless amateurs and professionals, all of whom wholeheartedly accepted this new sport. Soon after the release, many others got inspired to learn to drift. Grand Prix is very near to drifting and this has led to these tournaments in Japan and all across the world.
Right debuting in the late 80’s, competitive drifting has left a lasting impression in the racing world. Drifting is now a contemporary motor-sports culture, with races taking place in highways and speedways all over the world. The simple and relative low cost of modifying one’s car for drifting has sadly lead to vibrant, yet illegal, underground drifting scene in various countries. Unlike other types of competitive motor-sports, it is fairly simple for the average muscle car owner to add some modifications to the vehicle to transform it into a drift racer. While great for enticing new fans to driving lesson, this also leads to the surge in illegal underground races held in the public roads.
The Grand Prix tournaments have gone beyond the borders of Japan and are now held in countries all across the world. If you also want to learn it, you should want to get enrolled in any drifting school.
When it comes to finding unique car accessories for girls, much it depends on what you mean when you say “single”. Unique accessories could be that very few people have, or might well be accessories that are designed specifically for the female market. After all, there are certain accessories that no man would want.
To a large extent, men and women like the same kind of car accessories. It is how these accessories are dresses that will ultimately be the deciding factor. For example, if a guy likes dashboard mats could choose a display name of your favourite football team or the baseball team. Women on the other hand would probably want something a little more feminine.
If you are looking for accessories that offer a degree of practicality, or if you are looking for stickers or emblems, there is a particular design that has reigned supreme for a number of years already.
From dishes designer clothing bags, Hello Kitty has been a global sensation and not just among young girls. Women of all ages have fallen in love with this feminine symbol of tenderness. At first, Hello Kitty was essential designed for the younger generation, but stole the hearts of most women, regardless of age.
I’ve seen car brand “Hello Kitty” in dealer showrooms, and the number of car accessories Hello Kitty is amazing. Indeed, most men would never be seen in a car Hello Kitty pink and white, but cannot be said about women. Hello Kitty is without doubt, a very cute and adorable symbol of femininity.
How much difference can a little “tender” is truly amazing. In the past, very few women were even interested in accessories like wheel covers. These days, a steering wheel Covers white leather with pictures of Hello Kitty is an essential element. And do not forget dashboard mats Hello Kitty; Hello Kitty cup holder; Hello Kitty handbrake grip and etc.
In short, if you are searching only car accessories for girls, take much to beat Hello Kitty. That said, there is actually a very serious contender, and interestingly, is a boy this time. Still, most men do not want their cars to spend it as well as Hello Kitty, is most women who have fallen in love with him.
Of course, if you’re a woman and you want to customize the car you drive, certainly you do not have to limit your choices to these two characters. There are many different accessories like Car perfumes, Door Visors, Car foot mats, Door sill plates etc. to choose from. Some are cute; some are practical, and then you get those that are cute and practical.
An automatic transmission is just that- automatic, consequently most people tend to pay very little attention to it until a major problem rears its ugly head.
Picture the scenario- you are driving along in the lap of luxury, the satellite radio blaring and the heated seats on. You have become accustomed to the comfort level and great driving experience brought to you by BMW.
You decide to stop at the local convenience store on your way home to grab some ice cream for the kids and a bottle of water for yourself. Upon returning to your car, you start it up, check your rear view mirror, put the shifter in reverse and then the unthinkable happens- the engine just revs as if it is in neutral and the car goes nowhere!
This article deals with the reasons behind an unexpected loss of reverse in certain BMW automatic transmission equipped vehicles, specifically the 3 series and 5 series vehicles that use the ZF5HP19 or steptronic transmission. This includes the popular 323i, 323ci, 325i, 328i, 330i, 525i, 528i, 530i, X3 and X5 models well as some others built in the 1999 to present model years.
To eliminate confusion, this does not apply to vehicles equipped with the GM 5L40 E transmission, just the ones with the sometimes problematic ZF5HP19. The 5L40 E has some issues of its own that are beyond the scope of this article but are certainly going to be the subject of another.
The failure rate for these transmissions seems to be very high and is expected to become much more of a problem as time goes by.
Typically, the vehicle is working perfectly while driving forward but when it is put in reverse there is a complete and permanent loss of movement to back up.
Reverse is typically a major feat for any transmission to accomplish- imagine the demands that are placed on a gearbox as it is asked to reverse the torque of your engine so that you can back up your nearly 4000 pound vehicle.
By far, the most common cause of the reverse problem in BMW’s is the failure of the D-G clutch drum. Specifically, the snap ring that retains the D or reverse clutch breaks out of the clutch drum resulting in an inability for the clutch pack to apply.
The good news is that there is hope in regards to a proper repair. The factory has released an updated part that so far appears to be a permanent fix for this problem.
In our testing and in conjunction with several hundred successful repairs at our facilities, the new part seems to be metallurgically superior in several ways.
We have found that there is an improved radius area as well as slightly thicker casting. In addition to this, the grove that retains the snap ring is also relocated further away from the edge of the drum.
With this issue addressed and attention to detail in several other areas of the ZF5HP19 unit, the transmission can be repaired to “better than new” condition by a competent transmission rebuilder / remanufacturer. In fact, when properly repaired, the ZF gearbox becomes quite robust and can provide an almost indefinite service life.
Wanted to buy a used car but have since backtracked fearing it to be a bad investment? Or are you trying to sell your old car but have been getting too many rejection letters from potential buyers and dealers alike? Well, all of this may have stemmed from a miscalculation of the value that your old car up for sale in Kolkata or elsewhere can fetch. This may be because of several reasons, especially ones that you do not have an inkling of.
Provided below are some of the factors that may influence the value of your car, adversely or in a positive manner. Irrespective of how it reduces or appreciates the price of your used car, you need to keep them in mind while setting a price tag for your car to the dealer or while buying one too!
• After Purchase Accessories – While installing a fantastic set of accessories in your car, you may be improving the “bling” status of your vehicle, but will be in a soup when you decide to resell it to a dealer or a potential buyer. This is because ot many people want to buy the music system or air conditioner used in a car for 4 years. Instead they would buy a new one and install it, rather than buy your used accessory for even half of the original price. This makes recovering the costs of these accessories through the used car dealers almost impossible!
• Accidents and Damage – Of course superficial damage from accidents are a worry and reduces the price of the car inevitably. This also means a loss for the vehicle owner – who will have to repair the damage and also cannot add the costs to the price tag of the second hand car. On the other hand, internal damage can also cause a lot of price depreciation for the vehicle. Keep these factors in mind while buying or selling the second hand car from the concerned dealer next time!
• Other Factors – include seasonal discounts, impact of the weather on what models of a car will be bought more (summers are not for open top convertibles), as well as other issues like mechanic certification etc.
If you are really keen on buying or selling a second hand car online via a dealer, these factors will keep you well informed on the right price tag for the vehicle on your radar!
Many say that Muscle and Tuner cars are just two the same car. But there is also a big number saying that they are not, and one is better than the other. This is an argument that even until now, car enthusiasts are battling out. There are forums that were not ended yet because all participants have their points, favoring their personal choice of car type. And both car types continue to developed themselves, making it look like comparison being made set out a competition between them. That is why I think, it will take forever before we all find out which one will conquer the streets and racing competitions.
First of all, the reason why Tuner and Muscle cars are being compared is that both cars are modified for better performance. By definition, muscle cars are especially made as spacious, durable, unsophisticated and powerful. These characteristics by muscle cars are what made them a bigger and heavier car. Tuner on the other hand is car of comfort, practicality and high gas mileage accompanied by performance modifications. They are typically good-handling vehicles. They’ve got light weight and worldly-wise suspensions.
Muscle cars’ specialty is drag racing while tuners are meant for drifting competition. But since they are both searching for car supremacy, both crossed the borders beyond their expertise. Tuners are now trying it in drag racing while muscle cars are giving it a shot on twisty tracks and thrilling drifting competitions.
But it seems that the real standard for a good cars is its weight and handling. This is maybe the reason why modern muscle cars are now taking advantage of modern suspension working on better handling and avail computers which makes it more complex. This despite of the fact that there are muscle cars like rear-drive sedans that can have massive amounts of power.
For now, the debate is still up. We still can’t tell which one is better because both car types are developing their own. But to sum it all up, this battle between muscle and tuner cars benefits us the most.

Hello all you Volkswagen Vanagon and Westfalia fans. We here at Rocky Mountain Westy have decided to start publishing articles that help answer questions we get from clients all the time. Common questions about what to look for when your in the market to purchase a Volkswagen Vanagon and Westfalia. Let’s start there and we’ll write more articles for all of you as we can.
As most of you know Volkswagen Vanagons have been manufacturered from 1980 through 1991. Different versions in the United States included the passenger style van, the Weekender camper, the Westfalia camper and Wolfsburg & Carat Editions. We’ll break these models down further as we go on.
The models from 1980 to mid 1983 were air cooled versions of the T3 van. They lacked the lower grill that allows air to the radiator of the late 1983 thru 1991 US models. This is an easy way to know if the vanagon you’re standing in front of is an air cooled model or not. The early models through 1985 also had round headlights. That’s a dead give away if nobody has changed them. Many people will purchase a grill and headlamp system from a 1986 or newer vehicle to give their older Vanagon the appearance of being much newer. The square headlamp are brighter too.
Air cooled models of the Vanagon and Westfalia didn’t produce very good heat for the interior of the van since there isn’t any liquid cooling system to run coolant through a heater core like the newer versions. If you like a really warm heater, you may not want to buy one that is pre 1984.
The water cooled models or “Wasserboxer” arrived on the US market in late 1983 and sported a 1.9 liter engine with a Digijet or Digital Jet-Tronic fuel management system. This model also included some options including a nicer interior, tachometer, and better transmission. On the exterior the headlamps were now rectangular, plastic bumpers and alloy wheels were also options. The 1986 Vanagon also included a better optional air conditioning system that had an airliner style duct system running the length of the vehicle’s ceiling, on the passenger models.
An automatic transmission was available in vanagon models from 1980 thru 1991. Some say the automatic transmission was tougher than the manual transmission because up until the 1990 model year, the 3/4 gear synchro slider hub was of a flawed design. This sometimes caused the manual tranmissions to get stuck in 3rd or 4th gear. We think that for pure longevity, the manual transmission is still a better choice.
The Syncro model four wheel drive van was available from 1985 through 1992. These models are highly sout after and can be exremely expensive to purchase now. The camper versions of the Syncro in very good condition can bring over $100,000 US. Many people are now buying passenger style Syncros, and paying to have the top cut off and changed to a pop top camper roof. This is an expensive customization coming in at about $7000 by the time it’s all done. Remember, this doesn’t include and of the camper cabinets, beds, sink, stove or fridge. You have to find a donor Westy for that. Still, some people have to have a 4 wheel drive vanagon camper for their outdoor adventures. Truthfully we find that a slightly lifted two wheel drive camper will go about 90% of the places you would ever go. It also saves you tens of thousands of dollars for groceries and gas on your camping trips. Don’t get me wrong, a Syncro camper is a very cool and valuable vehicle. It’s just out of most peoples price range for a 20 year old van.
Syncros should be supplied with front and rear diff locks as the differential housing isn’t that strong, and are subject to failure if loads are carried. The diff locks help prevent wheel slippage in off road conditions and help overcome the limited axle articulation. Make sure any syncro you purchase has protective skid plate for the driveline and transmission. If not, install them as soon as possible before any serious offroad adventure.
In the grand scheme of things, the Vanagons are still a good value if you find a nice one and keep it maintained. They have their problems and design flaws that are constantly being looked at and addressed by Rocky Mountain Westy. We want to keep these vehicles on the road for a long time to come. Let’s look at some common things that need to me inspected when you’re shopping for a Vanagon or Westfalia.
- Do you want an air cooled model or water cooled model? (better heat in the water cooled model among a lot of other improvements)
- Head gaskets leaking on the 1.9 and the 2.1 liter Wasserboxers. (have a technicain familier with the Vanagon check the head gaskets for seepage. This can easily be a $1200 repair after you purchase the van. They all do it.)
- Cooling system leaks and cracks in the coolant towers or water distribution flanges. (the factory coolant tower that distribute coolant to numerous hoses get brittle and crack. This will cause an overheating condition damaging the engine. We make stainless steel replacements that will never fail.)
- Coolant pipes leaking or cracked? (there is a set of coolant pipes that run from the engine up to the front of the vehicle to carry coolant to and from the radiator. These will crack and leak also. Replace them with a stainless lifetime set from us.)
- Check for major oil leaks on the engine (vanagons leak, but make sure it’s not dumping puddles of oil on the ground in a short time. Valve cover gaskets are easy to replace. Crankshaft seals, rear main seals and oil pumps leak commonly)
- Check axle boots for cuts or tears. (dirt in the CV joints of the axles will destroy them and they will need to be replaced)
- Camper buyers check the appliances. (make sure the stove, sink and fridge are all in good working order.)
- Check the canvas and upper bunk in the campers. (open the top, it only takes a few seconds and you can check the condition of the upper bunk and tent canvas. The canvas isn’t super expensive to replace, but it’s exremely time consuming to replace it correctly.)
- Brake master cylinder leaks.(the master cylinder is located in back of the instrument cluster. A lot of people that own a T3 never even knew that. They tend to leak from the master cylinder or reservior. Check both areas.)
- If you find a Vanagon or camper with factory A/C, make sure it is working properly. If you really need it to work in this vehicle, it can be very expensive to repair, especially in a camper as some of the lines run through the cabinets, etc)
- Upper ball joints (most T3s need upper ball joints replaced after about 150K miles. Not a big deal, but add it to your expense list while negotiating a price for the vehicle.
- Camper interiors. (check to make sure all the curtains and tie backs are in place. All the cushions are there. The rear seat and upper bunk fold properly. Also check the swivel seats for operation. Most campers have them)
We think this will give you a pretty good idea what to look for when buying a T3 van or camper. Remember, it’s very important to do a very detailed inspection and test drive of the vehicle before you commit to purchasing it. If you are not familier with Vanagons, take it to a shop that works on them all the time for an inspection. Bring this list if you want. We hope this helps you in your search for the perfect T3. Make sure to come see us online at RockyMountainWesty. We’ll help you keep that Vanagon in tip top shape.
While buying a used vehicle you must know the transmission of the same vehicle. It is important cause transmission of the vehicle also affect the price range.
Transmission in vehicle means an automobile gearbox that is used to change gear ratios as the vehicle moves. It is used in all types of cars, vans, coupes, wagons, SUV, MUV, trucks & other heavy-duty commercial and industrial vehicles and equipment.
These Transmission are mainly divided in to 2 basic categories named as below:
- Automatic Transmission
An automatic transmission (commonly “AT” or “Auto”) is an automobile gearbox that can change gear ratios automatically as the vehicle moves, freeing the driver from having to shift gears manually. Similar but larger devices are also used for heavy-duty commercial and industrial vehicles and equipment.
Most automatic transmissions have a set selection of possible gear ranges, often with a parking pawl feature that will lock the output shaft of the transmission. Continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) can change the ratios over a range rather than between set gear ratios. CVTs have been used for decades in two-wheeled scooters but have seen limited use in a few automobile models. Recently, however, CVT technology has gained greater acceptance among manufacturers and customers, especially in Nissan automobiles and gas-electric Hybrid vehicles.
Automatic Transmission: In the name itself describes that the vehicle will manage the gearbox automatically. It lets the driver free from shifting the gears manually. Mostly the automatic transmissions have a set of selection of possible gear ranges, often with a parking pawl feature that will lock the output shaft of the transmission.
In the details of the vehicles, Automatic Transmission will be written as below:
AT, CAT, DAT, FAT
- Manual Transmission
A manual transmission (also known as a ‘manual’ or ‘stick shift’) is a type of transmission used in automotive applications. It generally utilizes a driver-operated clutch operated by a pedal or lever, for regulating torque transfer from the engine to the transmission, and a gear-shift either operated by hand (as in a car) or by foot (as on a motorcycle). Other types of transmission in mainstream automotive use are the automatic transmission, semi-automatic transmission, and the continuously variable transmission(CVT).
Manual Transmission: As reverse to Automatic Transmission the manual transmission manages the gearbox manually. It is a mechanical transmission, in which gears had been shifted by the driver’s hand on the gear stick or gear lever, rather than automatically.
Manual transmissions are characterized by gear ratios that are selectable by locking selected gear pairs to the output shaft inside the transmission. Conversely, most automatic transmissions feature epicyclic (planetary) gearing controlled by brake bands and/or clutch packs to select gear ratio. Automatic transmissions that allow the driver to manually select the current gear are called semi-automatic transmissions.
In the details of the vehicles, Manual Transmission will be written as below:
MT, C4, C5, C6, C7, C8, F4, F5, F6, F7, F8

The Fiat 500, the original was a response to the Suez Crisis of 1956, the post war European economy was beginning to wake up and by 1955 half of all ships passing through the Suez Canal were oil tankers. Fiat no stranger to small cars had released the Fiat 600 in 1955, but with the oil crisis of 1956 it was clear that a even more fuel efficient car was needed for the growing urban centers in Europe. The Fiat 500 is considered by many to be the first “City Car”. But that is enough history, today people are just as concerned about oil prices, cities are still growing, and people are looking for stylish alternatives to the standard econo-box hatchback. Just as it was in the late 1950’s the Fiat 500 and Mini Cooper stepped up to answer the call with cars that have a little personality.
As a car lover I could not wait for the new Fiat 500 to hit US Shores, I had owned several classic Fiats over the years, but had not driven a new Fiat since my last trip to Europe. So I did what most people would do and headed over to the local dealership (they call them studios) the showrooms are slick, clean red and white paneling, smooth Italian styled cabinets and displays, a coffee bar, and lots of glass. The only problem with the dealer is that no one would walk out and help me. After spending 20 mins walking around the lot, looking at every car, no one would come out. Now back when I sold cars, you get someone on the lot, at 10AM on a weekday, that’s a good opportunity. So I made my way into the showroom where I found no-one, I began to wonder if I had missed the rapture, but at last I spotted a salesperson sitting a glass office. I waved, shouted, and he looked up with little regard, and turned back to whatever it was he was doing. So needless to say, the first drive of a 500 would not come from Fiat of Ontario. I reached out to them, but that is another story for another time. I was headed to Dallas.
I landed in Dallas, it was over 100 degrees and the humidity from incoming thunderstorms made it feel even hotter. I watched as people darted in and out of air-conditioned cars into the terminal and back again, as if they could avoid feeling the heat. “CC66…sir,sir, your car is parked in CC66” said the lady from behind the counter. “Thank you” I said as a fumbled for my sunglasses. Outside the air was as thick, the heat was intense, the kind of heat you can only experience on blacktop, where it radiates from all directions. CC66, there it was bright red, one of only four colors an Italian car can really be.
Getting into the car I began to acclimate myself with all the bells and whistles, for someone that drives a 1969 Mini Cooper everyday the number of flashing lights and dials was impressive, and slightly overwhelming. The window buttons are not on the door and after a few moments searching I discovered them on the center console. For a car that is so small some buttons (such as the passenger side window) are kind of a reach for the driver. Thankfully this car was equipped with the steering-wheel mounted radio controls. The car seemed to get mixed reactions as a drove into town, some people would thumbs up, others from their towering pickups would shake their head as if to shame me, still others looked at me as if I were Al-Qaeda descending on their city.
The body color dash panel is a nice touch, it gives the car that 1960’s feel that they were going for, however, I just know some aftermarket company is going to come up with a simulated carbon fiber snap on cover for it. If you buy a 500 please avoid the urge to install wood or carbon fiber anywhere on it. For some reason, Fiat has decided to market the accessories under the MOPAR name here in the US. Because when you think MOPAR you think small and European. So far they have mostly come up with chrome fuel doors, mirror covers, decals, and the normal racks for all the extreme sports you will be doing in your Fiat. Don’t worry they already coming out with MOPAR seat covers, shift knobs, and wheel centers for your Fiat.
The seats are trimmed in cloth and vinyl, they are comfortable and supportive, for an inexpensive car have a good range of movement. The back seats fold nicely, but with the seats up you have just about enough truck space for a fat Basset Hound. With the seat down you have more room than the MINI, and about the same as the new Mazda 2/Ford Fiesta.
Driving all over Dallas I found myself looking at maps since there was no built in Navigation. I know that the dashboard layout does not lend itself to a navigation system, but MINI figured it out. Instead of doing it the right way Fiat has teamed up with Tom Tom, with a special edition Tom Tom dock that is mounted on the top of the dash, the system takes up about half of the windscreen and looks like a dirty thrift-store t-shirt under a Armani suit. The Navigation system is a $400 option and for that money your better off just getting the standard $149 Tom Tom with the large window blocking suction cup mount and spending the rest of that money on 512 $0.49 red burritos from Del Taco.
That does bring up the price, while the basic model does start at $15,500 the pricing quickly spikes up from there. The top of the line Fiat 500 Lounge C (C is for Cabriolet) will set you back $23,500 and that’s before you add the options. You want heated fronts seats and an auto dimming mirror that will be $450. Leather $1,250. A wifi hot spot in the car? give’em $499. Special order color $849, a red white and green racing sticker down the side? $399 so it all adds up pretty quickly. All said you can kit out a Fiat 500 to just under $30,000…and that is before you start adding your MOPAR parts to it.
So…ummm…yeah…$30K….Fiat 500….hummmmm. If you really have you heart set on an Italian Convertible for around $30K, I would suggest a previously loved Maserati Spyder, Qvale Mangusta, or go British and pick up a gently used Lotus Elise. With the Lotus you get the best of a Fiat… its small, impractical, flashy, and gets good gas mileage. But you get one thing that the current Fiat can’t give you….the Lotus is also fun to drive.
So how does the Fiat 500 drive, well the as tested Fiat 500 Sport, came in at just over $19K, the car is a “sport” because it has a button that says so on the dash. I think it is just the overdrive button most automatic cars have that disengages the overdrive. But this one says Sport so therefore it makes the car more sporty. It also gets the sporty alloy wheels and some other styling upgrades. However, the 101hp and 98 lb-ft of torque do little to inspire a sporty driving experience. (The Turbocharged Abarth model is needed ASAP.)
The sport model would have benefited with steering wheel mounted shifters since reaching for the shifter to do the +/- “Sport” shifting gets old quick and I ended up just putting it back in drive. The dash board mounted shifter is just far enough out of reach to feel uncomfortable, a feeling I got in the manual transmission version as well. I kept looking for the low between the seats, well placed shifter of my classic Mini Cooper that allowed you top push and pull the gear changes. This feels more like a toggle switch that has to be pulled at an odd angle. Fiat may have designed the shifter this was as keeping both hands on the wheel is important when you are driving the 500 at speed. Take a corner and the car feels like it is going to pitch over and roll, the back end bounces and misses no opportunity to take flight. This translates into a unsettled and uncontrolled feeling in any corner that is not perfectly smooth and level. The four-wheel discs do allow to brake later, keeping momentum is important in the 500. I was hoping for more of an original Golf GTI or Classic Mini Cooper feel in the handling department, but the only go-kart similarity the 500 has is the wheelbase.
Perhaps we are asking too much from the 500, it is about 6 grand less than a comparable MINI, and while the MINI has a racing heritage and pedigree, the standard 500 was never known as a performer, it took Abarth who doubled the cubic inches, and reworked the entire suspension and chassis to make it a worthwhile racer. The standard Fiat 500 is serving its purpose the original was intended for, a cute, affordable (if you go with a base model), city car that can deliver MPG in the high 30’s. It has a good A/C system, good fit and finish, it looks the part, but the “Sport” is a bit misleading.
It will take some time to see if the new 500 has more than just the cuteness appeal, once those who buy the car as a fashion accessory are done shopping will the drawbacks make the 500 this years SMART-CAR?

Antique cars and classic cars collecting, restoring, and showing have become the number one pass time for many classic car enthusiasts. Whether you’re new to antique cars as a hobby, or a seasoned collector, the internet has information on classic cars, car parts, accessories, car shows and antique car sales, and more.
The first antique automobile was made in 1672 by a Chinese monk, and was steam powered. Then, around 1769, The Cugnot Steam Trolley was capable of transporting humans was produced. Other steam engine cars followed. By today’s standards, the steam car would be considered a green alternative to modern gas guzzlers. New hybrid cars still don’t operate on nothing but steam power like the steam trolley did over two hundred years ago.
It wasn’t until 1806 that the first car with an internal combustible engine appeared. The internal combustible engine cars began to hook us all on vehicles that were powered with the use of gas and oil. In 1885, a more modern version of the internal combustible engine car was introduced. Even electric cars were designed very early in the twentieth century, but faded out in favor of gas powered vehicles. The Ford Museum, in Detroit, MI. still has a running, working model of Ford’s first electric motor on display. Antique Ford cars are highly collectible and well known in classic car circles.
There are several eras of collectible automobile history. Each era has a specific term to define the particular types of classic cars made during those time frames. Knowing certain antique car terms can help you to decide which antique car era you want to focus on as an antique car collector or restorer.
Classic cars from the 1890’s and earlier are termed “Veteran Era” antique autos. From around the 1900’s to 19190, those classic cars are generally referred to as the “Brass”, or “Edwardian” era collector cars. A very popular area for antique car collectors is the “Vintage” 1920’s era classics. Through the 1930’s to the 1950’s, there are “Pre-war” era classic cars. 1950’s through 1970’s are termed: “Post-war” classic or antique cars.
Cars that are twenty years old or older are generally referred to as “antique” cars. Another classic and collector car term you will hear is the term: “muscle cars”; which generally refer to sports cars made between the 1960’s to 1980’s. Whatever your classic antique car interest may be, the internet gives all the information, history, and antique car sales.
Antique Car collecting and restoration is a hobby practiced by people all over the world. Even American celebrities fall in love with them. Jay Leno, in addition to hosting the Tonight Show, is known for his huge collection of antique cars and motorcycles going all the way back to the early 20th century. Past stars known for their love of cars are Larry Hagman and Steve McQueen.
One of the reasons people love antique cars is that, for them, it brings back childhood or teenage memories. Maybe they had their first date in that car, or that is the car the family when on annual picnics, or maybe it was the car to have when they were young but they couldn’t afford it. The nostalgia market is worth billions of dollars and those longing for the antique autos of their youth account for only a small piece of it.
The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 market has softened significantly in the last 12-18 months. The global recession is being felt in the collector car market. A few years ago a 1969 Camaro Z28, any Camaro really, looked to be a rocketship investment, regularly reaching six-figure bids. Now, good to great examples can be had for between $40-$60k.
That said, first generation Camaros have a lot going for them that will always keep them desireable. For one, they are handsome machines, well-proportioned with aggressive muscle car bodywork sure to turns heads.
Then there’s the legendary Chevy small block V8 rumble. From ChevyHiPerformance.com, “The 302 Z28 engine is the smallest V-8 ever installed in a Camaro to date. It is also the only engine available new in any ’67-69 Z28. Based on a 4.00-inch bore and a 3.00-inch stroke, the little engine made lots of power above 5,000 rpm and very little below. This engine’s 290hp rating was very underrated. In stock trim, actual power was in the mid-300hp range. These engines were designed specifically to compete in SCCA road racing and came with a huge resume of hardcore race parts: a Holley 800-cfm carburetor, big-runner aluminum intake manifold, 2.02 heads, a high-lift mechanical camshaft (0.485-inch lift), 11:1 compression, full-floating wrist pins, a forged crankshaft, and more. Because the engine did not produce much torque and had such high rpm capability beyond 7,000 rpm, 302 Z28s were only offered with four-speed transmission and were not available with air conditioning. Chevrolet also sold several cross-ram-intake setups (two staggered four-barrel Holley carburetors) and special race camshafts for the early Z28s that helped the 302 gain even more high-rpm power. With some modifications these engines would easily produce power well above 400 horses (at very high rpm).”
To keep your car burning rubber now and into the future, aftermarket, NOS, and factory-authorized reproduction parts are plentiful. The first generation Camaro is probably one of the easiest cars to keep on the road out there.
Perhaps the most important thing to look out for when shopping is rust, which can be hiding just about anywhere. Don’t assume the owner has been vigilant. Dig deep to prove it for yourself.
Besides that, make sure the car is original and not a clone, unless you want a clone, which can save you thousands of dollars for 90% of the fun. Also, these are not refined luxury automobiles and will always squeak and rattle.
Whether you’re a die-hard Camaro disciple or just want a great muscle car, first generation Camaros are easy to fix, to restore to original or to customize to your heart’s content.
This depends on a lot of issues, most of which we can’t determine without tearing your car apart, at this point we have already begun the work on your car, the cost to restore your car is a subjective thing, we have no idea what it will take to restore a car until we look in to it.
Is the car from an area that makes it rust heavily, if so what damage has rust caused to the car, do we need to replace most of the metal parts of the car, such as the floorboards, trunk floors, rocker panels, and inner wheel wells, well you get the idea.
Does it have excessive body damage, electrical damage, interior damage, or mechanical damage, all of these things weigh in to the cost of getting your car restored, most reputable shops will have a shop labor rate that is high, if you locate a $25.00 per hour shop beware of what might happen to your car.
You might think that this sounds unfair, but your paying for their knowledge, not for their time, most reputable shops have owners that have spent a lot of time learning how to restore cars, and they should get paid for their knowledge of your car.
This is not collision repair, it’s nothing like it, we have no book to go off of to estimate the cost to restore your car, we have our knowledge of of your car, and the restoration of it, people often ask me if they can restore a car for less then it would cost to buy a fully restored one, the answer is no.
It will always cast more to restore a car then the blue book value of the car, so restoring them to resell, and make money off of is not the answer, you need to restore the car because it holds nostalgia for your, it brings back memories of the good old days.
There are just way to many factors to look at, factors that require us to begin work on the car to know what’s going on with it, a car can have a lot of hidden surprises, things that you’ll never see from just an outer inspection of the car, we need to get deeper then that to know about that car.
An average restoration can, and will take a lot of time to complete, even if the car is in excellent condition, it will take at least 1,000 hours to complete the restoration of your car, so let’s take my shop for example, the shop labor rate is $75.00 PHR, this means at least $75,000 in just labor.
It does not include parts, or supplies, it does not include any custom work that you want done, nor does it include any high performance work that you want done, this just gives you an idea of why a shop would say that they don’t estimate restoration work on any car.
If you want the car restored faster, all the shop can do is to put another tech on your job, and most shops won’t do that for free, they’ll charge shop labor rate for each employee that works on your car, so you should also keep this in mind when you want to push the speed.
This is not the first article that I have written on this, and I’m sure it won’t be the last, I seem to keep getting the same questions, a professional restoration shop is not in business to rip you off, they are only charging what it costs them to do the work.

Even though now manual transmissions are more popular than automatic transmissions, the latter ones have become important competitors of the former transmissions, even in the case of cheap cars. When a car owner chooses the fuel, he or she thinks of its advantages and disadvantages. They also consider in the same manner, concerning pros and cons, the transmission type.
Mechanic transmissions are based on fixed axes, with two or three axles and with cylindrical gear wheels, of steep teeth (lifting power in this case is high and there is low noise level on the move, even in the case of cheap cars).
Automatic transmissions are of three types. The first type is based on a hydro transformer and planet gear, and the second type has a chained mechanic variation device with planet gear, for expensive cars like Audi, but also for cheap cars. The third type is special and it is equipped with double coupler and cylindrical gear provided by BMW or Mercedes.
According to experts, one Audi car out of four is equipped with automatic transmissions. In the case of many cheap cars, mechanic transmissions are more dynamic, effective and they are not associated with high fuel consumption because there are no automation elements involved. Two disadvantages of these transmissions are lower comfort and power flow interruption while changing speed level.
On the other hand, automatic transmissions are characterized by a high degree of comfort and speed level changes without interrupting power flow. Another advantage of these transmissions is less considerable transmission shock during coupling or decoupling speed level.
There are cases when this transmission can almost reach the ideal feature at the traction level: maximum wheel power regardless the speed, which means very good dynamic and economic features, through the continuous variation of the speed ratio. The good news in these cases is that it can be associated with engines of at least 200 horsepower and 300 Newton-meters, instead of less powerful engines.
Automatic transmissions can be in general effective, in spite of higher fuel consumption, less dynamism and higher costs. Nevertheless, an automatic transmission is able to combine successfully the advantages of both transmissions types. It is remarkable through its sporty features, as it is very dynamic, it is effective, and the consumption is almost similar to a manual transmission. Besides, comfort is high and speed can be changed without interrupting power flow.
Obviously, the car of our dreams has automatic transmission, it is cheap, and it meets all the pollution standards. It is comfortable and environmentally friendly. Besides, there are perspectives to replace the traditional fuel with alternative versions. In addition, automatic transmission is a feature of many luxury cars nowadays.
However, cheaper cars can also be equipped with such transmission and they can be sold at accessible prices. Automatic transmission is recommended for big cities where traffic is intense and there are quite frequent traffic jams. If you are fond of cars and you want to know more details about transmissions, first you have to know that their technology differs from a producer to another.
It’s really interesting finding out about the most prominent featured Japanese used cars in online magazines, blogs, and motoring websites. It gives users a grasp on who’s who in the auto industry, and provides information on cars without requiring you to own one first. People would already have a car in mind when asked about what they think are the most popular cars from Japan, and it makes you think what exactly makes these cars so well-known. These models have become icons of Japanese automotive culture.
Bestselling: Toyota Corolla
The Corolla is reputed to sell one unit every forty seconds—well you don’t have to take this literally as this may also mean that ever since this model was launched to the market, the number of units sold from then until now surpasses any other car in history. What makes it a bestseller is its supreme reliability, so much so that it is also one of the first cars to need a sixth digit on its odometer—it just keeps on running!
Top Competitors: Honda Civic & Honda Accord
The fuel-efficient Civic came just in time to alleviate the lives of millions of auto-using Americans during the oil crisis in the Seventies. The success of the Civic paved the way for the introduction of the Accord, which was to become the first Japanese model to be assembled in US shores, and consequently become one of Honda’s bestsellers, competing with Toyota’s Camry.
Affordable Speed: Datsun 240Z
A list of the most prominently-featured Japanese used cars won’t be complete without the Datsun 240Z, known by its classier name Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan. Back when sports cars were admired from afar by enthusiasts (the Porsches and Ferraris were simply not budget-friendly), the Datsun 240Z provided a sleek and fast ride for a much affordable price.
Hybrid Pioneer: Toyota Prius
As people began to be more conscious about the environment and are encouraged to make proactive steps in conserving resources, Toyota launched the Prius in 1997, the world’s first mass-produced hybrid. The Prius was a good start in hybrid technology, and soon after its release other car manufacturers followed suit, each coming up with new hybrid and electric models, and making hybrid versions of existing models. The Prius also gets top mileage, and is very popular among Hollywood celebrities.
Unique Rotary Engine: Mazda RX-7
Motorsport fans would always cite the RX-7 as one of the most iconic sports cars from Japan. It is one of the most prominent featured Japanese used cars because of its 1146cc twin-rotor engine. Rotary engines are small and light, but are extremely powerful.
True Japanese Exotic: Acura NSX
This sports model was designed to compete with the Ferrari 328, but enthusiasts agree that it’s actually way better than the Italian model, and it was much more affordable too. It’s been called an everyday supercar, and some folks would also attest that it is probably the best sports car that has ever been built.
That’s all for now. There are plenty of other models that have become prominently-featured Japanese used cars over the years, such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, and the Mazda Miata. We’ll take a look into the other models in our future articles, so keep on reading!
The first Porsche classic model was made in 1948 and was called the Porsche 356. It came in as a 2-door coupe and 2-door convertible. It had a four-cylinder horizontally opposed engine with 40 bhp of power reaching top speed of around 140 km/h. The model has been in production for over 17 years and in 1965 the company moved to a new prototype – Porsche 901.
Porsche 901 was delivered to the market after almost 10 years of development. Porsche was accused of taking the naming rights of another car producer – Peugeot, for using 3 digits number with 0 in the middle. For this, Porsche changed the name of their Porsche 901 prototypes to Porsche 911. This affected many other Porsche models with similar names – Porsche 904, 906, etc. However, the number 1 had its unique magnetism and Porsche decided to stick to it. Thus, the 0 in the middle was substituted with 1.
Porsche 901 was firstly created as a four-seated model. However, as a continuation of the of the Porsche 356 it had to have a rear engine located at the back which defined this model as two-seated. Thus, a six-cylinder Boxer engine was used for the Porsche 901l. The car was so remarkable that Mr. Ferry Porsche presented it as the unmistakable character of the Porsc he sports car. Porsche 911 continues its development till present.
In 1965 the company started working on another version of the 365 prototype – Porsche 912 which outsold the Porsche 911 for the first year. In USA, it became a market leader. The Porsche 912 was an economical Porsche with a four-cylindered Boxer rear engine with 1.6 litters capacity. The dimensions of the first Porsche 912, were:
Height: 1,320 mm
Porsche 912 was also remarkable for its top speed – 185 km/h. However since 1969 the prototype is no longer produced. The company moved to another model.
In the same year, Porsche launched Porsche 914. Long before it came out, the Porsche 914 was already popular as a wonderful sport car at an affordable price – around 12,000 DM. The design of the car was reported by many drivers to be a real tease – elegant and sporty. The body-work of the model was done by the company Karmann. This model came with four different engine options, long wheelbase and Tagra or Coupe body. With its great advantages Porsche 914 quickly became the current best selling model.

“The smart fortwo has reinvented itself once again and is now more fun than ever before” says the Stuttgart-based automaker of its compact smart car that measures just 2.69 metres in length and is powered by a state-of-the-art 52 kW/71 hp 3-cylinder engine with low fuel consumption of 4.1 litres per 100 km.
A distinctively trendy car that’s fun to drive and offers high manoeuvarability, the smart fortwo boasts a turning circle of 6.95 metres. The lightweight engine and twinamic 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission are positioned at the rear, aiding in the compact design of the car and its agility, particularly in traffic and when it comes to squeezing into a parking space.
The smart fortwo competes against the likes of the Scion iQ, Toyota Prius C and Fiat 500e. The Scion iQ is a minimalist metropolitan runabout that also has impressive fuel economy and can be parked just about anywhere, the Prius C offers top fuel economy and a nimble and easy-to-park size, while the all-electric version of Fiat’s 500 hatchback is also well suited to city dwellers in its own right.
Mercedes says the smart brand is designed to appeal equally to the heart and mind. Combining familiar design features such as the two-colour concept of the tridion safety cell and bodypanels with new ideas and details, the smart fortwo is made to stand out on the road.
The colour contrast between the tridion cell and bodypanels is a characteristic feature of the smart fortwo and there is plenty of choice when it comes to this, with up to 40 colour combinations available.
The exterior design of the smart fortwo features extremely short overhangs at front and rear and a 100 mm wide track that sees the wheels positioned further outwards. These characteristic proportions provide for impressive visibility and agility and, together with the rear engine, enable a passenger cell accommodating an unrivalled amount of space in such compact dimensions. Other key elements of the exterior are the headlamps and cooling air grille in the front, while the higher bonnet with new sculptural lines lends the car a more grown-up and sportier character.
The smart fortwo’s face is designed to be ‘friendly but self-assured’ and a distinctive feature of this is the signature smart grille, which is now slightly larger.
The ‘easy-going and charming’ interior features materials that are a pleasure to look at and touch, and is surprisingly spacious with an extra 10 cm of width. It’s an interior created to reflect the values of a young, active and networked generation.
Functionality and interior space are key components of the smart fortwo. The sporty front seats are designed as integral seats and the 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel is standard equipment which can be used to control the radio or navigation unit (optional). The infotainment centre appears to hover in front of the dashboard, and the sporty dashboard instrument with clock and rev counter offers practical guidance for fuel-saving driving, timely shifting and over-revving.
The instrument cluster and its semi-circular segmentation for the speed and warning indicators cites previous smart models, but in a new look.
With a cargo volume of up to 350 litres, the luggage compartment of the smart fortwo is spacious, and the split tailgate facilitates loading and unloading. The passenger seat backrest can be folded down to allow items up to 1.55 m in length to be fitted in.
The new smart fortwo boasts an impressive body space index, which describes the ratio of interior to exterior length whereby the interior length is measured from the accelerator pedal in unused position along a horizontal line to the rear end. The smart fortwo has a top rating for this criterion at 75 per cent.
Mercedes’ city car comes with an array of safety and assistance systems, including five airbags as standard, crosswind assist, forward collision warning function, rear-end collision warning function, hill start assist, anti-lock braking system, cruise control with limiter, electronic stability programme, parking aid and reversing camera. The tridion safety encasing the occupants is made of high-tech steels; a high proportion of ultra-high strength hot-formed steels and maximum-strength multiphase steel is now used on the new smarts.
When it comes to multi-media systems, the smart fortwo features the smart Media-System with a 7-inch multi-touch display and interfaces for AUX, USB and SD card, integrated navigation function and Bluetooth® connection, the smart Audio-System and for the first time, the JBL Soundsystem as an option.
The new smart cross connect is among the apps available with the smart fortwo, specially developed for in-vehicle use on the road and for use outside the vehicle as well. Available for mobile phones with iOS and Android, the features include control of the main radio functions in the Audio-System, navigation including POI search, parking space finder, trip monitor and display of key vehicle data including speed and fuel consumption.
Smart fortwo comes to Hong Kong car dealerships in a choice of three equipment lines – passion, prime and proxy. And to tie in with the market launch of the new smart generation on the Hong Kong auto scene, five smart fortwo edition#1 units are for sale. This limited edition features a tridion safety cell in lava orange combined with body panels/body in white.
The smart fortwo passion line is, as Mercedes describes, for those looking for something a little special and a confident, extravagant and modern city car. In the interior there’s a choice of three colour combinations for the fabric seats, dashboard and door centre panel – black/orange with black/grey accent trim parts, black/white interior with white accent trim parts and black/black interior with black/grey accent trim parts.
The smart fortwo prime line is positioned as stylish, timeless and chic with black leather seats that harmonize with the dashboard and door centre panels in black fabric. Grey stitching on the seats and the accent trim parts in black/grey provide subtle contrasts.
Progressive, sporty and trendsetting is the smart fortwo proxy line which offers highlights such as a panoramic roof, Cool & Audio package, Sports package and white/blue seats in leather look and fabric.
The first step in drawing
Drawing is a hobby that takes a lot of time to learn as with anything else. But once learned you can create some nice drawings or paintings. Below i will explain how i draw pictures of muscle cars and hotrods. I choose cars is because there is lots of detail and cars are kind of challenging to draw.
The tools you need are a drawing pad, pencil, eraser, tape measure opional and a picture to draw.
The first step in drawing is i look for a nice detailed muscle car or hotrod first from my tablet. But you don’t have to find a detailed picture to start out with, since you are first starting out drawing. Once i have found a picture of the car.
Second step is get your pencil and pad and start to sketch the outline of the car on the pad first the best you can. You can use a tape measure to measue each angle of the outline, thats if you want the picture the exact same size. Most of the time you will want to draw a bigger version of the car. I just use my eye’s intead of a tape measure. This part as with others there will be lots of looking back and forth at the picture and erasing some of the drawing to fix the curves, straight lines or angles to better the drawing.
The third step is to draw the windows, lights and other inner detail and lines about where you think these details should go the best you can, and again there will be lots of looking at the picture and erasing and fixing the detail in the drawing to try to make the picture closely resembe the car picture.
The forth step is adding the shading and light spots about where you thinke they should go either near some parts you drew before or through them on the picture you are drawing of the car. Again as in the other steps there will be erasing and redrawing to make the drawing look better.
The drawing not complete. After the drawing is done, i usually check the picture and the drawing for a last once over to adjust some things if needed and most of the time it is.
In order to become good at drawing. Practice is the key to be able to create some good art.
Vehicle transmissions come in two options: manual or automatic. With an automatic transmission, the car, truck or SUV will automatically shift gears for the driver. Conversely, with a manual transmission the driver is responsible for actively shifting between gears.
Many of us drive automatic vehicles, but there are several advantages to driving a manual transmission. If you don’t know how to operate a stick shift, you may want to consider learning. We’ve compiled a list of why investing in a manual transmission might be a good option for your next vehicle.
Not as Pricey – One of the most obvious advantages to buying a vehicle with a manual transmission is the price tag. If you are car shopping on a budget, as most of us are, you can save a fair amount selecting a manual transmission instead of an automatic. The average automatic transmission is approximately $800 to $1,100 more than a manual transmission. Obviously, manual transmissions are the way to go if cost is your main deciding factor while vehicle shopping.
Better Control – Another perk to a manual transmission is additional control over handling. Manual transmissions tend to have a quicker shift response. More control over your vehicle really comes into play during incremental weather. Extra control can make all the difference in slippery or icy road conditions.
Fun to Drive – Many owners of manual transmissions wouldn’t have it any other way. They enjoy playing a bigger role in the driving experience by having to switch gears.
Minimal Distracted Driving – One of the most dangerous driving behaviors out there is distracted driving. Automatic transmissions require less focus and attention because they shift gears automatically. In some cases, automatic transmissions allow drivers the potential to zone out or concentrate on unrelated activities when behind the wheel.
Less Expensive Maintenance – In many cases, the upkeep and repair cost is lower on a manual transmission compared to an automatic one. From fluid prices to clutch replacement, all of these repairs tend to be less costly than replacing an automatic transmission.
In addition to all of the aforementioned perks, it is worthy of noting that most sports cars have manual transmissions. Without a manual transmission, sports cars just lose some of their appeal because there is nothing better as a driver than shifting gears as you speed increases.

For some people, the best car accessory for a BMW is wheels, some find steering wheels or gear shift covers to be the perfect car accessory for their BMW. Any of these after market items make a great touch to personalize a BMW. They come in a variety of styles and prices, but there is certainly a car accessory in the group that would be just right for you and your car.
When choosing a car accessory for the BMW, keep in mind that it will have to be installed at some point. Despite of the functional benefits, this car accessory is also an important car accessory. No matter whether you buy chrome, black or smoked vent visor it helps in improving the look of the car without affecting its original design.
Added advantages of Vent shades
Just imagine a picture for a second that you are driving in a splendid day when the sun is bright by lowering the windows and enjoying the fresh air. Just imagine, at this moment if without any prior warning, the skies starts moving in a swift manner and it starts raining. At the initial stage, it might be raining swiftly but as the time passes it starts raining heavily.
As soon as it will start raining heavily you will have to shut the windows so that the interior part of the car would not get wet. The problem that you face during this time is you will no more enjoy fresh air. On the contrary, if you have installed rain guards or wind deflectors in your car you can protect the interior of the vehicle from getting wet.
These accessories are very convenient and useful car accessory. If you use a vent shade in your car, you can easily lower the glasses of the windows even if it is raining outside. Just imagine that you are driving your car by closing all the windows closed when it’s raining outside. In this situation you will miss the beautiful scenery covered with fog. Vent visors also prevents the fog to accumulate on the windows which will make your driving easy.
Choosing Vent Shades
As vent visors are growing in popularity they are available in different types of colors, designs and styles. There are many people who opt for the custom made visors which are designed mainly according to the specific model of the vehicle. For instance, you can invest in the vent shades for the trucks; vent shades by Hyundai, Toyota vent shades and many more.
Installing Vent Shades
One of the best things about the vent shades are they can be simply attached to the vehicle. It is not necessary that all vent shades will require complex fittings and drillings. Generally, the rain guards are clipped into the desired position by using a tape which is generally provided along with the visors.

Motor vehicles running in public places are regarded as a potential threat to the life of passengers, pedestrains and driver. Not only this, it can even cause damage to your own as well as third-party properties. Assuming all these probabilities, the motor vehicle insurance law has made it necessary for every car owner to insure themselves as well as his vehicle.
The unexpected expenses and the legal issues occurred by an accident can not be afforded by everyone. Paying these expenses all by yourself can majorly hit your pocket. Therefore, it is mandatory to have a car insurance that acts like a guard against the financial risks brought by an accident. An insurance policy for your vehicle not only provides protection to you in case of an accident but also covers the injury caused to third party.
Why To Have A Car Insurance?
Generally, every car insurance covers six high risk categories. However, the premium payouts are separately paid for each one of it.
1. Accident Cover Or Collision Cover
If the owner of the vehicle sustains injury while travelling in an insured car, the insurance policy provides accident as well as injury coverage for the policy holder, along with damages caused to the insured vehicle.
2. Bodily Injury Liability
In case of any injury caused to a third person or death of a third person, the driver of the car is legally required to pay compensation. Although, there are many insurance policies that provide cover against legal liabilities occurred by accidental damages to the third person and property. The coverage limit is not fixed for injuries or death and depends greatly on case-to-case basis.
Generally known as ‘Vehicle Damage’, comprehensive excludes accidents but involves theft as well as damage to the vehicle from natural calamities such as explosion, fire, earthquake, flood, landslide, lightning, hurricane, falling objects, etc.
At the time of an accident, this covers medical expenses of injuries to the occupants of the insurer and also known as Personal Injury Protection (PIP). It includes cover for medical treatment or hospital bills.
5. Property Damage Liability
This provides cover to third party property for the damage caused by the policy holder.
6. Uninsured Motorists’ Coverage
This covers treatment cost for the insurer from injuries caused by an accident with an uninsured vehicle or driver.
Benefits Of Insuring Car
1. In case of any harm caused to the car due to collision, the insurance company pays the repair expenses. However, the repayment sum is liable to the terms of the policy and generally includes a percentage of the aggregate repair cost.
2. In the event of permanent total disability or death, the insurance policy provides a personal accident insurance to the owner of the car.
3. A good car insurance policy takes care of any type of third party liability arising out of an accident. Injury/property harm/death of the third party caused in the mishap legally put the driver or owner of the car to pay off for their misfortune. This is what insurance company deals with.
A vehicle owner must secure his possession by insuring his car. As it is fundamental, it is now mandatory to buy a car insurance policy from a trusted insurance company. This will protect the car owner from the misfortunes brought about post an accident, particularly to give a cover for third party damages. Besides, the definite terms of policy, claim settlement procedure, premium charges and add-on covers differ from company to company.
Nowadays, almost all insurance ventures provide the car insurance premium online so that the individual can easily figure out premiums on his insurance policy and can then make his choice accordingly.
HDFC ERGO is a leading general insurance company that not only offers car insurance online but also provides post-accident assistance. Anyone can secure his finances and make driving stress-free by having an insurance policy from a well-known firm.
Arizona is the home for classic cars, with the nice dry weather and many retirees living in the state. Many classic car and muscle car owners are older men, the baby boomers that fueled the muscle car craze in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. They want their old cars that they once drove (and raced), now that they are retired and can maybe spend the extra money and time they need for them. Finding the right auto insurance for your classic car in AZ should not be difficult, as long as you know a few basics of the law and standards in classic car insurance.
A few requirements will be needed to be qualified for classic car insurance in Arizona. First off, a garage will be required for your classic car. I’m sure this won’t be a problem for most, since that blistering summer sun can do some damage to any paint job if left out long enough. If your car is being restored or not in great condition from the start, you may be able to get away with having a canopy or other type of shelter. Make sure you explain to the insuring company the exceptions, and they may be able to work with you. As I will show later, contacting a specialty collector car insurance company may give you more relaxed policies depending on your specific needs. Typical auto insurance companies used for daily driving vehicles may not work with your exceptions as well as specialty car insurers.
The next requirement is having a driver’s license for at least 10 years, and it must be a fairly clean driving record. The decision about the driving record will be made by the individual insurance company, so you may need to shop around if your record is not that great. Furthermore, you will need a daily driving vehicle. NO insurance company will insure your classic car if you do not have another vehicle to use for your daily commuting. The daily driving vehicle does not have to be insured by the same company, but having the car is a requirement. Nearly all insurance companies put a mileage restriction per year on miles driven on the classic car, usually 2,500 to 5,000 miles. The more miles allowed, the higher the premium.
Most car insurers will classify the term “classic car” to mean anything older than 15 years, and sometimes 20 depending on the insurance company standards, so keep that in consideration when shopping around. For most situations, you should choose the ‘Agreed “Value” policy. You and the insurance company will determine a full replacement amount on the vehicle, and you will be covered to that amount always. The other policy sometimes offered is the “stated Value”. You do not want this one, since the depreciation value will be taken off the value of the vehicle.
The biggest tip that can be offered is to compare specialty collector car insurance providers. You could end up finding cheaper rates, better coverage, and the process could be a lot simpler than going through a typical auto insurance company. Specialty car insurance companies only deal with specialty and classic cars, so they know how to properly value a car, and can guide you through the process easily. Not only will you have less headaches, but you will be able to properly value your car.

Starting an Automatic Transmission engine
1) Start the engine in the Park (P) position or Neutral (N) position. The engine will not start in any other position.
2) After starting the engine, fully depress the foot brake pedal before shifting the selector lever from P (Park) to R (Reverse), D (Drive), 3 (Third gear), 2 (Second gear) or 1 (Low gear).
3) Keep the foot brake pedal depressed and push the selector lever button to shift into a driving gear.
4) Release the parking brake and foot brake, and then gradually start the vehicle in motion by pressing the accelerator pedal.
Usually automatic transmission is designed so that the foot brake pedal MUST be depressed before shifting from P (Park) to any drive position while the ignition switch is ON. The selector lever cannot be moved out of P (Park) and into any of the other gear positions if the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK, OFF or ACC position, or if the key is removed.
Shifting Automatic Transmission
When shifting the lever into P (Park), R (Reverse) or from D (Drive) to 3 (Third gear) the button located on the lever must be press. Except on the position mentioned above you can shift on other position without pressing the button on the selector lever.
When starting or parking the car, the location of the selector lever must be in this position. Make sure that the car is completely stopped, before moving the selector lever into P (Park) position. As a safety measures depressed the brake before moving the selector lever into P (Park) position. However, while the lever is in P position you must also engage the parking brake.
When parking on hills, depressed the brake pedal and apply the parking brake, and then shift to into P (Park) position.
Select the R position when you reverse your car. Before shifting to R (Reverse) position, ensure that the car is fully stopped.
The engine can be started on this position. When your car is stalled while driving, you can shift to N (Neutral) position then restart the engine.
This position is use for all normal driving.
3 (Third gear)
This position is better for driving up and down slopes that need engine braking.
2 (Second gear)
This position is use for driving uphill or engine braking for downhill.
1 (Low gear):
This position is use when driving slowly on steep hills, driving through deep snow, sand or mud, or when making engine brake while driving on steep down hills.
Each time your vehicle is started, the transmission is automatically “reset” to overdrive ON.
ON: With the engine running and the shift selector lever in the D (Drive) position, the transmission upshifts into Overdrive as vehicle speed increases. Overdrive does not engage until the engine has reached operating temperature.
OFF: For driving up and down long slopes where engine braking is necessary push the Overdrive switch once. The O/D OFF indicator light in the instrument panel comes on at this time.
When cruising at a low speed or climbing a gentle slope, you may feel uncomfortable shift shocks as the transmission shifts into and out of Overdrive repeatedly. In this case, depress the
Overdrive switch to turn the Overdrive off. The O/D OFF indicator light in the instrument panel comes on at this time.
When driving conditions change, depress the Overdrive switch to turn the Overdrive on. Remember not to drive at high speeds for extended periods of time with the Overdrive off. This reduces fuel economy.
Shift lock release
If the battery is discharged, the selector lever cannot be moved from the P (Park) position even with the brake pedal depressed and the ignition switch in the ON position.
To move the selector lever, push the shift lock button then move the selector lever to N (Neutral) position.
The first generation Honda Accord transmissions were Hondamatic type automatic transmissions designed by Honda themselves. This in-house development route was taken because the designs used most commonly for automatic transmissions were owned by the Borg-Warner corporation and Honda was averse to paying royalty fees. Whereas the normal designs of the day used planetary gears, the Hondamatic design use parallel shafts, similar to a manual transmission. Using this design also allows for the retention of engine braking. Early Hondamatics also used a patented torque converter which used stator force rather than hydraulic controls to make automatic shifting possible.
Initial Hondamatic designs used for Honda Accord transmissions were the H2 and H3, which were 2-speed and 3-speed designs. The change from a 2-speed to a 3-speed automatic was made in 1980. The manual transmission offered for the Honda Accord was a 5-speed and it was available from the start.
The second generation Accord (1982–1985) retained the basic Hondamatic design, using two parallel shafts. In was actually in 1983 when Honda upgraded its Hondamatic transmission to a four speed. Later designs of the type H4 transmission used three shafts instead of two, thus getting a new designation, the H4A. The manual five speed transmission remained unchanged. The third generation Accord, produced until 1989, retained these transmissions even though the rest of the car underwent major design changes. The fourth generation Honda Accord transmissions also used the same Hondamatic 4-speed automatic but fully electronic in operation by this time. The change made to the 5-speed manual was in using a hydraulically operated clutch.
Beginning with this generation, all Accords equipped with automatic transmissions made use of an electronically controlled rear engine mount to dampen low frequency noise and vibration. The engine mount contained fluid-filled chambers controlled by an electronically operated valve. Below 850 rpm, fluid is routed through this valve to dampen vibration. Above 850 rpm, the valve is closed to make the engine mount stiffer.
Fifth generation (1994–1997) Honda Accord transmissions were the unchanged manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic, now upgraded to the Type B7. If featured Honda’s Grade Logic shifting program but the transmission became noted for its hard shifts. Type B7 automatic transmissions were notorious for premature failure and it was not uncommon to have transmissions break down before 100,000 kilometers. According to Honda, a bad bearing in the transmission would break apart, which clogged passageways in the transmission, causing damage. Such failures became so prevalent that class action suits compelled Honda to extend the warranties for affected vehicles.
The sixth generation (1997–2002) Honda Accords were split into three separate models, designed for the Japanese, North American, and European markets. In Japan, the Accord SiR used the S-Matic automatic transmission. Moving the gear-stick over to the right allowed manual selection of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear using an up/down shift action similar to sequential gearboxes that were used in race cars such as the Japan GT Championship Honda NSX. Otherwise, the gearbox worked like a conventional automatic transmission in other operating modes. North American Honda Accord transmissions were the 4-speed automatic M6HA and the mainstay 5-speed manual which was standard with all 4-cylinder models. The 4-speed automatic was optional on the 4-cylinder engines but standard for V6s.
Seventh generation (2003–2007) North American Honda Accord transmissions received new designs in the form of a lightweight 6-speed manual transmission borrowed from the Acura CL. The type H5 automatic transmission also made its appearance with the 7th generation Accord redesign. 2006 was the model year when the V6 sedan was offered with a 6-speed manual transmission as an option. A hybrid Accord also made an appearance in this generation and its V6 had a VCM (for Variable Cylinder Management) feature that allowed it to shut off three of the six cylinders for better fuel economy. A compact 5-speed automatic transmission was developed to allow the inclusion of a 144 hp electric motor between the transmission and the engine.
From 2008-2011 Honda Accord transmissions remained the same for the coupe and sedan, with the 2.4 liter inline 4 having a five-speed manual transmission as standard, and a five-speed automatic optional. For V6 engines, a 5-speed automatic is standard and the 6-speed manual optional. For 2011, a reworked five-speed automatic has helped the Accord attain a fuel economy rating of 23 mpg in city use and 34 mpg for the highway.
Transmission issues persisted up to 2009, and even the 5-speed automatic, first used in 2002, reportedly suffered from premature wear in the 3rd gear clutch pack. Similar to what happened with 4-speed automatics, the prematurely wearing clutch clogged internal passageways, causing erratic shifting, slipping, sudden downshifts or no shifts at all. Another problem which arose for the 5-speed was 2nd gear breakage, which would cause the transmission to lock up. Transmission rebuilders seem to have success in combating all these problems by installing additional high quality filters and using synthetic oil.
Obtaining the ultimate components like the KW HLS Hydraulic Lift System for sports cars has never been easier. With HLS Hydraulic Lift System that has been incorporated by KW automotive which, is now offering a further innovative technology that presents numerous advantages for owners of sporty vehicles that have low ground clearances? With this system even extremely lowered vehicles can pass underground parking exits, speed bumps and railroad crossings easily.
The advantage of a hydraulic system is that there is no compression motion of the extended cylinder unit resulting in no unwanted additional suspension movement while driving. The hydraulic cylinder unit is located on the coilover body between spring perch and spring. Therefore, KW hydraulic lift system helps lowered vehicles with low ground clearance to clear obstacles such as parking lot entrances, speed bumps and sharp angled driveways.
These kits are currently available for popular sport cars like the Porsche, Audi, Dodge, Lamborghini and Nissan vehicles. These superior engineered aftermarket accessories help sport cars avoid road clearance difficulties. KW HLS is available as vehicle specific solution or individual conversion kit depending on the car model. Allows cars with low ground clearance to clear obstacles more easily. The HLS system is available as complete kit including KW coilover kit or as conversion kit.
This is particularly useful for vehicles with lowered suspensions and/or sports cars fitted with spoilers, cars with long overhangs or extremely low-swung cowlings. This is because vehicles such as these encounter problems when entering underground garages, ferries, car washes and driving over other obstacles. This accessory is also helpful when driving on extremely rough roads, through road works and when negotiating speed humps.
When expanded, a range of up to 45 mm of lift is produced, thereby helping sport cars avoid road clearance difficulties such as speed bumps, road construction, etc. HLS is available in two different versions: HLS 2 which is fitted to the front axle and HLS 4 which can be attached to the front and rear axle and allows lifting the entire vehicle.
Keep in mind these important facts:
- Allows cars with low ground clearance to clear obstacles more easily
- Available as complete kit including KW coilover kit or as conversion kit
- Can be activated from inside the vehicle via a LED position control switch or by an optional remote, thereby eliminating any need for interior wiring.
- Can be activated while driving (up to 80 km/h)
- Fast lifting – maximum lift occurs within 4- 5 seconds when using HLS 2
- High-quality cylinder unit with durable aluminum construction
- Sealed unit for corrosion and dirt resistance
High speed chases, busy streets and out of control criminals are all things the police have to deal with on a day to day basis, which is why they need power and speed to keep up with such a demanding pace. The Telegraph website reports that “from a Ferrari to a Smart Car, police forces around the world are spoiled for choice for fast cars when it comes to patrolling their patch”.
There is fierce competition for the world’s fastest police car with the “Italians and Germans vying for the title”, according to the Telegraph. Up until now the police “prix d’or” has been held by a Lamborghini Gallardo, which an “Italian police patrol is using on the Salerno-Reggio highway”. This superb car is capable of hitting a top speed of 192pmh, which is ample to keep up with the most reckless of motorists.
The Germans however have other ideas about the type of vehicle needed to outrun rogue road users, and have incorporated the Brabus CLS Rocket in their fleet. Rocket by name, rocket by nature; the Brabus has a twin-turbo SV12 S engine, which combines “maximum power with exquisite running smoothness and maximum environmental friendliness”, according to ConceotCarz.com.
Other countries that can boast having the addition of a super fast car in their fleet include the USA, where cops in South Carolina can be seen cruising around in a Dodge Viper, which has incredible straight-line performance, handling and quality. Austrian police patrol the streets in a Porsche 911, after results proved that the countries motorists are “reluctant to take them on”, reports the Telegraph.co.uk.
Britain can show it can keep up with European competition for the world’s fastest police car, with the likes of Sussex Police Force’s latest recruit – a 148mph Lotus Exige. “Dressed in full police uniform and with a set of flashing lights on the roof, it is Britain’s fastest police car and can hit 60mph in only 4.1 seconds”, according to Carsuk.msn.com. Boy racers across the country should be shaking in their driving boots, with this £35,000 cop car that can keep up with most supercars cross-country. Although this super speedy automobile would be great to creep up on unexpected speeding motorists, the idea behind having this addition is to encourage young people to drive responsibly and safely.
British police cars might not be the fastest, but the four Smart Cars used by Scotland Yard are the “greenest with the lowest carbon emissions”, according to the Telegraph website.
I have written a lot of articles on this subject, and I know if you have a bit of money to spend, you can make pretty good money on classic cars, my specialty is muscle cars, so that is what I will discuss in this article, I know them, and I know them well.
After twenty years of studying on the subject you learn a few things about them, the obvious thing is that if your a car freak, you can have a lot of fun making your money, it doesn’t have to be like work, I would suggest that at the first you specialize in one type of muscle car.
Choose your favorite muscle car, and learn all you can about it, buy every book that you can find, they created special versions of almost every muscle car ever built, and these are the ones that you can truly make the good money off of, they won’t be east to find, but it will be worth the hunt.
You need to make yourself an expert on the muscle car that you specialize in, yes you can expand later and begin to learn about different muscle cars, or classic cars, like I have specialized in the first generation camaro, and the second generation corvette.
Have you ever heard the term by the numbers, that is what you need to learn if you want to make money investing in muscle cars, learn the numbers, you cannot know to much about how they work, with a Chevrolet you have vin tags, casting numbers on the engine, and the transmission.
You also have a protect-o-plate if it’s still with the car, not to mention a date code, and RPO code, a rear end code, and that should about cover all of the codes, these all must match the vin tag on the car, if they all match then you can bet that you have the real thing.
The biggest mistake that people make is that they get excited, and when part of the numbers don’t match, they just blow it off because the car looks good, doing this will lose you money when you go to sell the car if you ever do, and if you keep it an an investment it won’t be worth as much.
On a Chevrolet the one number that is easy to change to you best rip off art work, is the ROP code, the pad that the RPO code sits on can be machined off and re-stamped to match anything the thief wants, but that is why the other numbers are there, it won’t match the casting number in this case.
If you find a car that the RPO code, and the casting number don’t match, please do yourself a favor, and don’t second guess the numbers, the numbers don’t lie, they are always right, and if they don’t match it should throw up a red flag the size of Texas.
This is a good place to start, if you keep in mind that you should never second guess the numbers, you’ll always do well investing in classic cars, learn the numbers like the back of your hand, know everything you can about them, and you do very well in this venture.
Every human being has a dream to buy a perfect car, but this is no possible to buy the one which can perfectly match with your desire. Sometimes your budget doesn’t allow it while sometimes find the vehicle which can meet with your requirement. Make a proper search and comparison before buying any product. Cheapest is always not good; buy the genuine one of quality which is at reasonable price.
While manual cars are not as popular as they used to be (owing to the rising demand for automatic cars especially in the Americas and Europe), they still account for a substantial percentage of annual car sales (both used and new). Perhaps the reason for this is the advantages of a manual transmission over an automatic, which are as follows:
Lower base price, repair, and maintenance costs. Manual vehicles generally have a lower base price than automatics. On the average, a manual costs $1000 dollars lesser than an automatic. When it comes to repair and maintenance costs, manual transmission appears to be more superior. The clutch, which is one of the most expensive and labor intensive components of a car when it gets damaged, is more easily maintained in manual than in automatic transmission. And any mechanic can tell you that working on a manual transmission is much easier than working with automatic gear boxes. So the repair costs for automatics are significantly higher. In the long run, manuals require less service, thus making maintenance cheaper.
Gives higher gas mileage. Even if a manual car is relatively more difficult to drive, it doesn’t eat up too much fuel, consuming 5%-15% lesser fuel depending on road conditions and driving habits. Automatics, even though easier to use, ultimately burn a lot more gas than their manual counterparts.
Gives better control. The basic premise is that manual transmission allows for better control of the car. With a manual, you can keep the power of the engine right where you want it, based on the conditions of the road. And no matter how sophisticated the electronics, automatic transmission will never be smarter than the human brain that’s actually driving the car. Simply put, manual transmission gives you full control with your gears but with an automatic your choices are limited between two pedals. Manual transmission gives you more freedom when it comes to maneuvering on steep hills or curves. It also allows you to combat tough weather conditions more comfortably.
With all these advantages of a manual transmission notwithstanding, here are the reasons why automatics have been very popular nowadays:
Ease of use. Generally, automatic transmissions are easier to operate. There are only two pedals, so it’s almost like driving a go-kart. In a traffic jam, this is a big plus. Manuals are generally more tiring to drive in traffic, because of the need to use the clutch pedal.
Relatively safer. When driving an automatic, a driver will have his/her left foot free and both hands on the wheel. A manual requires a little too much concentration from the driver: the continuous pumping of the clutch pedal and the constant shifting of gears is enough to distract a novice driver.
The best of both worlds. With new options like manumatic transmissions, automatics may finally be gaining on manuals, combining ease of use with power. At the onset of the 21st century, this new transmission mode was introduced by automobile manufacturers. Manumatic transmission is basically an automatic transmission that possesses certain manual-transmission features. A good example is the luxury cars of Chrysler. It’s definitely automatic, only that you have more control in shifting your gears.
In the end, your decision shouldn’t be based only on the advantages and disadvantages. It ultimately boils down on your needs. For example, if you want maximum performance and superior control, you may want to consider getting a manual transmission. If you want ease of driving, especially in heavy traffic, automatic transmission is your best choice.
A torque converter does the job of the clutch in a vehicle with manual transmission. It transfers the rotating power generated by a vehicle’s engine to the transmission mechanism in order for it to shift gears automatically. There are three major torque converter parts—the pump, the turbine, and the stator.
The pump is attached to directly to the engine, and spins at the same speed as the motor. Inside the pump are many fins, which, as the pump spins, direct hydraulic fluid outward to the turbine. The turbine then spins at close to the same speed as the engine, but in the opposite direction. The spinning of the turbine causes the transmission torque converter to rotate and drive the wheels. The hydraulic fluid exits the turbine at its center, moving in the direction opposite to how it was forced in by the pump.
The beneficial part of a torque converter is that it is able to enhance torque when there is a difference between the input and output speed of rotation, which then provides about the same torque as a reduction gear. A converter can be, and is often, used not only in automobiles but also in boats and in buses used for public transportation.
A converter, like any vehicle part, gets worn out and requires the occasional torque repair or torque converter part replacement. You can also opt to upgrade your converter for a high performance driving experience. When you know the limits of your converter, you can spare yourself from torque repair woes, which is more common than you might think. Of course, most of the problems can be avoided by simply knowing the limitations and capabilities of your converter.
Overheating is probably the most common converter problem encountered by users. There is more than one reason for overheating your converter. There could be a defect on the spark plugs; the distributor timing might be off, or there is continuous high level of slippage. Torque repair shops would have to control this situation by checking for the seals, to make sure they haven’t melted away. Broken seals lead to leaks, and leaks lead to poor circulation of transmission fluid.
Due to sudden loading or excessive heating of the converter, the pump and/or turbine blades may get deformed, separated from their hubs or annular rings. On worse cases, they may even break into fragments. At the least, this type of transmission torque converter will result in a significant loss of efficiency, producing symptoms similar to those seen in stator clutch failure. In extreme cases, you might have to undergo total torque rebuild mode. Replacement of torque converter parts like the turbine and the stator is an expensive process. This problem can be rooted to plain bad and careless driving.
A converter problem called ballooning is also commonly seen among units. What happens is, pressure and stress put on the converter’s housing causes it to distort and eventually break. Hot oil and converter parts will automatically spew out. This is a very serious problem that is caused by prolonged operation under excessive loading, very abrupt application of load, or operating a torque converter at very high RPM. For efficient and high performance of your converters, make it a habit to regulate speed and load. The occasional check up is also helpful.
